The Croft Upper Abbey Wood

Our small family of nurseries are set-up to be aspirational yet accessible and fully inclusive to help the communities we serve.

The Croft Upper Abbey Wood

A beautiful Victorian property, The Croft Upper Abbey Wood lends itself perfectly to nursery life. Established in 1991, it is one of the longest standing nurseries in the area.  Located on the Woolwich Road, close proximity to two main line stations and Crossrail. We have a purpose built, baby room a home from home, providing dedicated care for babies.  With the Toddlers, 2+ and Pre-School rooms in the main building. As part of a recent refurbishment our garden now includes multitude of learning zones and a nature School area.

The Baby Room

Our brand new, purpose built, baby room is a home from home to provide dedicated care for babies from three months old. Each baby receives individual attention with lots of cuddles, eye contact, smiles and positive verbal communication through words sounds and songs. We nurture babies through a variety of learning opportunities. These include learning to crawl and walk as well as joining in with ‘messy play’ and other stimulating activities suitable for this age group. Babies are also provided with garden time and walks which ensures they receive appropriate opportunities for outdoor play and fresh air.

The Toddlers Room & The 2+ Early Learners Room

These rooms area designed to support your child’s rapidly developing skills and physical abilities. We encourage children to learn new words through stories, nursery rhymes, singing songs and musical movement. They will also enjoy activities in the arts and crafts area helping children to learn how to identify different objects and colours. Each child will have a wide variety of toys to play with all appropriate to their age and stage of development. The home room area is where the children rest after their meals and enjoy quiet and imaginative play. The Croft Day Nursery works in conjunction with parents to teach personal, social and emotional skills through interaction with other children and adults, feeding themselves at mealtimes when ready, they will also receive assistance in becoming toilet trained.

The Pre-School Room

This area is designed for the older children up to the age of five. As part of the foundation stage curriculum we have designed a gentle introduction to a wide range of subjects such as reading, writing, maths, religious festivals and the world around us. Each child receives regular indoor and outdoor activities which include music and movement, dance, drama, construction, running, balancing, ball skills and walks.

The Pre-School room team provide opportunities for your child to develop their language skills by encouraging children to join in at story time. The children also develop their pre-writing skills by painting, drawing, cutting and sticking. Personal, social and emotional skills are developed through interaction with staff and children through the day, especially during meal times where staff encourage children to help in serving themselves and others at mealtimes.
Regular communication will ensure that you receive and understand your child’s individual needs in order to develop their confidence and independence.

The garden is an extension of the nursery rooms. All children have outside time…whatever the time of year, whatever the weather. The children are provided with rain suits if the weather requires it. Our nature school is run throughout the year in the garden and off-site with or trained Forest School Leader.

‘A year and a half after leaving, my son is still excited about dropping in to pick his sister up. It's a wonderful setting and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.’
